The last shredder we bought for our home office. we went on the cheap, figuring we wouldn't require large loads or heavy sheaves of paper. We ended up overloading it with outdated files and burned out the motor. Then, we discovered the Fellowes 3228901 by searching the net for a new one that would be heavier duty, quiet (the other one sounded like a lawnmower), and yet be unobtrusive as a piece of furniture, fitting neatly under one edge of a work table. The 3228901 was attractive, well reviewed, and better yet, on sale. The little panel of lights tells you when you are putting too much or the wrong folds of paper through the chopper, and stops you before you jam it. It has all kinds of fool-proof detectors to keep it in good shape despite the operator. It shreds paper into little accordian strips but doesn't dice it, but that's okay. A blue "on" light lets you know if you forgot to turn it off, which is done with a rear mounted toggle switch, to discourage little hands from operating it (two buttons to turn it on).
A supply of plastic refill waste bags comes with it; other refills can be bought in stores. You can stretch this by emptying them into your standard plastic garbage bag and putting the empty back in the box. They fill up pretty fast with about a ream of paper each, counting the air. All in all, though, we're happy with it: cool looking, efficient, quiet, and doesn't give you back talk; and it gets rid of all those outdated files we'd been storing. Fellowes has been in the business a long time and has updated their products in response to customer suggestions. They obviously read the reviews. No complaints on this one.
